The Expenditure Finace Committee (EFC) of the city government cleared 20 projects of the PWD and one each of Forest Department, Social Welfare Department and Irrigation & Flood Control Department at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
Briefing media, Dikshit said the roads transferred by the MCD to PWD were not in good shape and it required urgent improvement, strengthening, widening and upgradation.
"The PWD has, in fact, taken up this matter on priority to upgrade these roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic apart from presenting a better image of Delhi roads. The estimated cost of each of these roads is about Rs 10 crore and less than Rs 100 crore.
"The estimated cost also cover provision for five year maintenance including micro surfacing of the roads in the third year. The major component of the work also include all civil, electrical, horticulture works and improvement of footpath," Dikshit said.
Eleven roads in Trans Yamuna area are being strengthened at a cost of 148.55 crore while two in north-northwest localities will cost the exchequer Rs 28 crore. The work on remaining seven roads in south and southwest localities will cost Rs 154.42 crore.
Dikshit said the projects would be completed within shortest possible time to provide relief to commuters.
The meeting was attended by Revenue and Health Minister Dr A K Walia, PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, Social Welfare Minister Kiran Walia and senior officials.
