Delhi government has collected over Rs 8400 crore from value added tax in the first six months of current fiscal year, which is an increase of around Rs 420 crore as compared to the corresponding period the previous year.
Sanjiv Khirwar, Commissioner in the Trade and Tax department, said that the department has collected tax of Rs 8469.90 crore which is an increase of Rs 420.73 crores as compared to previous year upto the date.
According to the department, the drive has been launched to increase the collection of taxes and it would ensure to achieve its target.
The commissioner said that the date for submission of Form-9 has been extended upto October 28.
The Trade and Tax Department has also taken stringent action against a number of bogus dealers and tax evaders in the national capital.
"Under VAT system, the bogus dealers (dealers who take registration on wrong credentials and then disappear) issue fake tax invoices on the strength of which genuine dealers claim Input Tax Credit and thereby reduce their liability to pay VAT. Now, the VAT Department has tightened the noose on bogus dealers," Khirwar said.
He also added that to curb the menace of tax evasion, the department has taken action against the violators.
"During the week ending September 26 this year, strict action against bogus dealer was intensified. Value Added Tax Inspectors visited such Bogus dealers. 38 bogus/high risk dealers with bogus declared turnover of Rs. 836.11 in 2013-14 were intensified and registration certificate of these dealers cancelled. Input Tax Credit (ITC) of Rs. 9.23 crores were also disallowed during this week," he added.
