Delhi HC blast: 3 victims move HC for compensation

A PIL was today filed in the Delhi High Court seeking compensation on behalf of three victims of the blast in the High Court premises saying they have not received the the amount awarded to them even three years after the incident.
Fifteen people were killed and over 50 injured on September 7, 2011 blast in the Delhi High Court premises.
The PIL, filed by All India Anti-Terrorist Front, through advocate Gaurav Bansal, said that despite the high court order Aftab Ahmed and Raashid Ali, both permanently disabled victims, have not got the compensation.
Besides Aftab and Raashid, the relatives of another victim Nizamuddin, who lost his life in the terror attack, have also not received the compensation, the plea said.

The high court had in September 2011 asked the Centre and Delhi government to pay an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of those killed and Rs 3 lakh to those who suffered grievous injuries while directing them to show "impeccable sensitivity".
"For last three years, the victims are running from pillar to post to receive the fixed deposit of Rs 3 lakh," the plea said.

"Several times, the victims have approached the government for the purpose of receiving the compensation but were told by the officers of the revenue department that the process is on and the files are with the Divisional Commissioner, Revenue," it added.

The petiton further states that the two victims are the sole bread-winners for their families and are living in very poor condition and unable to manage even two meals a day.
"Direct the respondents to forthwith release the amount of Rs 3 lakhs along with the interest @ 18 percent per annum from September 21, 2011 to September 21, 2014 in favour of the Delhi High Court Terrorist Attack's victims namely Raashid Ali, Aftab Ahmed and the next kin of Nizamuddin," the plea said.
