Delhi Police will get Rs 4630.88 crore for the next fiscal, an increase of Rs 581.6 crore following demands for beefing up training and infrastructure to provide better security to people, especially women, in the national capital.

In the interim budget presented in Lok Sabha today, the city police were allocated a total of Rs 40.59 crore under plan head while Rs 4590.29 crore was earmarked for non-plan expenditure. The total amount comes to Rs 4630.88 crore.

Last year, in budget 2013-14, a total of Rs 4049.28 was allocated, which was later revised to Rs 4243.96 crore. In 2012-13, the actual budget allocation was Rs 3820.23 crore for the Delhi Police.

Rupees 11.37 crore has been allocated for developing traffic and communication network in NCR mega cities and model traffic system while Rs 11.50 crore have been earmarked for installation of traffic signals in national capital.

Laying emphasis on training, Rs 4 crore has been allocated for upgradation of training facilities.

However, budget allocation has seen a decline when it comes to induction of latest technology in Delhi Police as only Rs 44 lakh has been allocated this year against Rs 2 crore allotted in the last budget.

The Delhi Police, which had received flak after the December 16 gangrape incident, had admitted deficiencies like vacancies and lack of vehicles to patrol the streets was affecting policing.
