Excessive pollution in the Yamuna is set to hit water supply in many parts of the city as Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has reduced pumping from its two treatment plants.
Due to excessive pollution in the river since yesterday, the pumping from the Wazirabad and Chandrawal Water Treatment Plants has been considerably reduced, said a senior DJB official, adding that the water supply in many parts of the city will thus be affected due to low pressure.
The water supply will be available at low pressure on the evening of December 28 and morning of December 29, in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area and in north Delhi, north west Delhi, central Delhi and parts of west and south Delhi, the official said.
Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, Civil Lines, Subhash Park, Mukherjee Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Model Town, Jahangir Puri, Wazirpur industrial area, Punjabi Bagh, Gulabi Bagh, Hindu Rao, Jhandewalan, Motia Khan, Pahar Ganj, Karol Bagh, Old Rajinder Nagar, Naya Bazar, East and West Patel Nagar, Malka Ganj and adjoining areas will be affected as they receive low pressure water supply.
The problem is being discussed with Haryana irrigation department, which was asked to release water to help maintain normal supply, the official added.
Residents of affected localities have been advised to store adequate water, the official said, adding that water tankers will also be available as per the requirement in different areas.
