Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said there are presently 47 pairs of Mail/Express and 40 pairs of passenger trains serving stations in the Saurashtra region.
Noting that these services are adequately catering to the needs of the passengers of the area, he told the Lok Sabha during Question Hour that representations have been received for new trains in the region.
He said representations for introduction of new trains have been received at various levels of Railways administration, including at the Railway Board.
"Since January 2014 till date, nine pairs of new trains (six pairs of express trains and three pairs of DEMU (Diesel-Electric Multiple Unit) service have been introduced in this area," Prabhu noted.
