A day after the derailment of the Indore-Patna Express, repair work of the Kanpur-Jhansi route is in its final stage, with authorities expecting it to be over after midnight today and that trains will be allowed on the section from tomorrow morning.
Amit Mishra, Deputy General Manager, North Central Railway (NCR) and Amit Malviya, NCR PRO said the rescue work was completed early this morning following which the bogies lying on the track as well as the wreckage were removed.
A team of railway engineers and technicians is working to repair the track. Also, the electrical engineering team is fixing the overhead electricity wires. All this work is being carried out at a very fast pace and is under the supervision of top railways officials, they said.
Malviya said they are expecting the repair work to be over by midnight today and from tomorrow morning, trains should be allowed on the Kanpur-Jhansi route.
Four trains were cancelled and 14 diverted after 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed in the wee hours yesterday due to suspected rail fracture, disrupting traffic on the route.
After the accident, NCR General Manager Arun Srivastava had said traffic on Kanpur-Jhansi section will be opened in 36 hours.
