Despite isolated showers in some pockets today, most parts of Punjab and Haryana continued to suffer under sultry weather conditions.
However, relief from the heat wave is round the corner as the Meteorological department has forecast rain in the days to come.
Hisar in Haryana was the hottest place at 43.2 degrees Celsius, five notches above the normal level and same as yesterday, while Ambala registered a high of 35.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal.
Chandigarh, parts of which received a drizzle, registered 36.8 degrees temperature, up two notches.
In Punjab, Amritsar was the hottest place at 40 degrees Celsius.
Despite light rains, there was no relief from sweltering heat wave for the residents of Ludhiana, which recorded 38.7 degrees Celsius, and Patiala, which registered 37.5 degrees Celsius.
In its forecast, the Met department said that rain or thundershowers may occur at at a few places on July 16 and at many places in Haryana and Punjab.
The two states received scanty rains during June although there was some rainfall due to the south-west monsoon on July 2.
