"There is a gross mismatch between the number of neurosurgeons in the country and the actual patient population of head trauma.
"Our country has got approximately 1500-1600 neurosurgeons and we see so high population of neurotrauma patients coming everyday. So we need to produce more doctors who can look after the head trauma specially in far-off areas," said B S Sharma, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at AIIMS.
Doctors from various parts of the country will be identified and recruited to undergo a rigorous training for a minimum of six months upto one month and they will be taught how to do basic head injury surgeries, Sharma said.
