Purakayastha, after holding the meeting of SPs of West Midnapore, Purulia, Birbhum, Jhargram (police district) and Bankura, told reporters they reviewed the overall law and order situation and took stock of the past incidents of crime in the closed door deliberations.
However, another police officer said this morning the meeting also took note of report of Maoists trying to make a come back in the junglemahal belt from adjoining Jharkhand.
It was decided that in the run-up to the festive season, the police top brass will hold meetings with their counterparts in neighbouring states of Jharkhand and Bihar, the officer, not wishing to be named, said.
