Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said he did not attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meet on Planning Commission as the Model Code of Conduct was in force.
Omar, the NC working president, said had he said or demanded anything for the state during the meeting, BJP would have filed a case of violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
"I did not go. Should I fight elections or attend meetings? My responsibility for the party is the elections. And then if there is election code on everything, what will I talk about there?
"If there is a code, then there is a code and it is on everyone. I cannot demand anything for the state or talk about anything about the state by going there," Omar told reporters here.
The chief minister addressed a public meeting here to garner support for his party -- the National Conference (NC)-- candidate Mohiuddin Mir who is fighting the elections from this constituency of south Kashmir.
He said the state was not unrepresented at the meet and his attendance would not have benefited the state.
"But we did not go unrepresented there. I sent my Chief secretary and other high officials. Under these circumstances, it was not important for me to go there. Neither would it have benefited the state," he said.
