Congress leader Digvijay Singh today attacked Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi asking why and what he was "scared" of as Justice R A Mehta declined to assume the office of the state Lokayukta yesterday slamming the state government for opposing his appointment.
"Justice Mehta declines Lokayukta post in Gujarat stating that 'Gujarat Govt Damaged My Credibility'. Why is Modi scared of Lokayukt in Gujarat?," Singh said in a post on microblogging site Twitter.
Using Mehta's criticism of Modi government, Congress spokesperson Raj Babbar also said the wind blowing from Gujarat is saying that there is "no space for any counter view there."
Mehta, whose appointment as Gujarat Lokayukta was opposed by Modi, yesterday declined to assume office, saying the controversy had "denigrated" the office of the anti-corruption watchdog.
"Gujarat remains without Lokayukta ever since Modi came to power. Is there a forum in Gujarat where cases of corruption can be taken up?
" Rs 45 crore spent by the government as legal expenses in thwarting Justice Mehta's appointment. If Modi is honest, what is he scared of?," Singh said in his two other tweets.
