Delhi High Court today reserved its verdict on a plea seeking judicial inquiry into the deaths of two students, who had died after falling into water tanks of their respective educational institutions, and also for disaster management assessment of all schools here.
A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal reserved the judgement after concluding hearing arguments on the plea filed by Col (retd.) Devinder Sehrawat, an AAP MLA from Bijwasan constituency here.
"We will consider this and will pass an order," the bench said.
Divyansh Kakrora, a six-year-old Class I student of Ryan International School in Vasant Kunj here had died after falling in a tank in his school on January 30 this year.
In a similar incident on January 27, five-year-old Ankit had died after falling into an open septic tank in an MCD school in Kapashera area of south Delhi.
During the hearing today, the counsel appearing for the petitioner, told the bench that action taken report filed by Delhi Police in the matter was not sufficient as no action has been taken.
"We want a judicial inquiry and a committee to be set up for examining the dangers in the schools," the lawyer said.
Earlier, the court had observed that no such untoward incident should occur in any school in future and had sought suggestions to frame guidelines to prevent it.
The plea has urged that urgent steps be taken to "ensure that such ghastly incidents do not reoccur" in future.
Police had earlier informed the court that it was a case of negligence and the some persons have been arrested.
