The Central Information Commission has directed the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) of the CBI to disclose the number of voice samples examined by it in the last five years.
It also directed the CFSL to provide details about the voice samples which have tested positive and negative.
The CIC order came on an application file by a person, named Umesh Budholia, who had sought to know details of voice sample tests done by the CFSL, the samples which tested positive and those which did not match.
The CFSL-CBI is a scientific department under the administrative control of the Central Bureau of Investigation. It undertakes scientific analysis of crime exhibits referred by the CBI and other agencies.
The CFSL said no information is available on the records of CFSL CBI, New Delhi as to the number of voice samples tested in the last five years.
The CFSL-CBI also does not have classified data as to the number of voice samples found positive or negative, it said.
During the hearing, the CFSL explained that the voice samples are usually tested by the Physics Division and the records are not maintained as per voice records alone but along side other tests within Physics Division.
"Data is available division wise not technique wise. Complete data of physics division can thus be provided which includes voice samples," it said.
Information Commissioner Yashovardhan Azad directed the CFSL to collect the information from the Physics Division and provide to the appellant.
