Div Com to initiate enquiry in firing during Sikhs protest

The divisional commissioner Jammu will initiate enquiry from tomorrow into the firing incident at Ranibagh on June 4 in which one Sikh protester was allegedly shot dead by the police.
"In pursuance to Government Order No 206-Home of 2015 dated June 10, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal shall be initiating enquiry process from tomorrow into the firing incident at Ranibagh, Gadigarh Satwari that occurred on June 4 in Jammu district," an official statement said.
A youth was killed and seven people, including three policemen, were injured on June 4 as clashes erupted between police and a group of sikh youth who were protesting against removal of posters of slain Khalistani militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Jammu city.

The inquiry officer has been asked to enquire into the circumstances which led to death of a youth in the firing incident and injuries to others, during the subsequent law and order situation in Jammu district.
He would also enquire into the adequacy or otherwise of the force used and would also fix the responsibility and recommend action to be taken against the guilty, it said.
The enquiry officer will also be suggesting remedial measures so as to avoid recurrence of such incidents in the future.
"The enquiry shall look into the observance of the established Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) during the riot like situation besides the activation of confidence building measures among the people" it said.

According to the official order, Divisional Commissioner Jammu shall be submitting the enquiry report along with specific recommendations to the government within a period of one month from the date of issue of this order.
