A DMK village panchayat president was killed near here today when a four-member gang hurled petrol bombs and attacked him with deadly weapons, police said.
Dravida Balu (62), president of Kannigaiper village in the district, was sitting at a tea shop when the assailants came in a car and threw three petrol bombs at him. He tried to escape but they chased and hacked him to death, police said.
Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police Rubesh Kumar Meena said the murder could have been due to political rivalry in the local body elections.
