The incident came to light yesterday when the 24-year-old girl reported the matter in Shakarpur police station of east Delhi. The police then registered an FIR in the case and arrested Jitender Kumar, who is in his 30's.
According to the victim's complaint, she met Kumar a few months ago. They became friends and gradually became close.
Kumar then promised to marry the girl, who works with a private firm. They then moved in his flat in Yamuna Bank area in east Delhi and started living together, police said.
"However, he later declined to marry her after which she approached the police and registered FIR," said a police official.
