"The doctors in super specialities are not very keen to join the government service. During 2013 and 2014, requisitions for 83 posts in various super specialities were sent to UPSC.
"The UPSC could only recommend 38 candidates out of which 31 finally joined the services," Union Health Minister J P Nadda said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
He said the government has taken several measures to retain the best talent and to fill up vacant posts which include time bound promotion without linkage to vacancies upto senior administrative grade.
Replying to another question, he said the number of allopathic doctors as proportion of the population in the country is "less" as compared to WHO norms.
He said that the number of radiotherapy machines in the country is less than the norms of WHO and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
