Seventeen tons of red sanders logs, worth Rs 6.8 crore, have been seized and two persons were arrested in this connection, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence said today.
A team of DRI sleuths searched a private yard at Madhavaram in the city recently and seized the logs which were concealed in a container with the goods declared as 'glass', a DRI release said here.
Two key persons, including the mastermind, involved in arranging the clearance of the consignment at the Chennai Port Trust were arrested, the release said.
The duo have been repeat offenders in smuggling of red sanders, it added.
