Delhi University has signed an MoU with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for the introduction of skill-based courses for its students.
"The objective of the Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) is to improve the employment potential of the students with systematic training, certificates of competency, and placement assistance," said Malay Neerav, DU's Media Coordinator and Joint Dean of Students' Welfare.
These courses shall be made available in colleges under DU as add-on short-term courses/compulsory courses/long-term courses for undergraduate students.
The agreement, which is expected to integrate skill-based training as part of the graduation curriculum, was signed today between DU Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh and Dilip Chenoy, Managing Director and CEO of NSDC.
"We connect with the real world in this fashion. We have kept it flexible but it will give credits to the students.
"NSDC and DU have recognised the need of the hour. A large number of DU students would benefit from this by coming to terms with the real world by attaining the skills and professional knowledge which would give them jobs or make them job-giving enterpreneurs," said Singh.
He also expressed hope that other universities will follow in DU's footsteps and explore the idea.
Chenoy said, "NSDC is pleased and honoured to partner with DU in this initiative. This is a big opportunity for students who wish to supplement their theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on training that will improve their employability in the increasingly competitive job market in the country and transform their lives.
Elaborating on the MoU, Neerav said, "The partnership will help students acquire special skills for jobs and entrepreneurship related to the knowledge that they will obtain in their regular courses.
"The training shall be in sectors such as banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), IT and IT-enabled services (ITES), healthcare, media and entertainment, tourism and hospitality and the automotive industry.
"Seventy per cent of all students under this programme shall be assured of receiving a placement through NSDC for jobs or for becoming entrepreneurs in the above sectors," he added.
