A squall and dust storm accompanied by scattered light rains lashed parts of the national capital today, providing respite from the heat.
A squall with wind speed of 54 km per hour hit the Safdarjung observatory at 3.33 PM and continued for two minutes.
The Safdarjung observatory, whose recording is considered official for the city, registered a maximum temperature of 40.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal, said a Met department official.
Areas under Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded maximum temperature of 41.1, 39.6, 40.4 and 39.9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Further, areas under Palam, Lodhi and Ridge received traces of rainfall, while Safdarjung and Ayanagar did not record any rains.
The minimum temperature settled at 24.4 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year.
The humidity oscillated between 69 and 19 per cent for the day, the official said.
The MeT office has predicted overcast conditions with a likelihood of thunder lightning for tomorrow.
"The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 40 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively," the weatherman said.
Yesterday, the minimum recorded was 22 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature had settled at 39.9 degree Celsius.
