The initiative, approved by the HRD Ministry in 2011, proposes to develop e-content in 77 subjects across disciplines and the material will be made available to both teachers and students in the form of open online courses.
The HRD Ministry, under its National Mission on Education through ICT, sanctioned grant-in-aid to UGC for production of the e-content in subjects at postgraduate level.
"It hardly needs to mention that such a gigantic task could be accomplished only through a participatory exercise," UGC chairman Ved Prakash said in his letter to the vice chancellors, seeking contribution from academic experts.
