In view of the forecast of heavy fog from January to first week of March 2016 and experience from previous years, East Coast Railways has decided to cancel some of the north bound trains originating from its jurisdiction.
Some trains originating and terminating from east coast railway jurisdiction will remain cancelled, an official said.
Visakhapatnam-Nizamuddin-Visakhapatnam Samata Express via Rayagada-Titilagarh and Raipur will be cancelled from Visakhapatnam on every Wednesday between January 13 to February 24, 2016 and from Nizamuddin on every Friday between January 15 to February 26, 2016.
Visakhapatnam-Kazipet-Visakhapatnam Dakshin Link Express will be cancelled from Visakhapatnam on every Monday between January 11 to February 29, 2016 and from Kazipet on every Friday between January 15 to March 4, 2016.
Similarly, Puri-New Delhi-Puri Nandankanan Express will be cancelled from Puri on every Monday between January 11 to February 22, 2016 and from New Delhi on every Wednesday between January 13 to March 2, 2016.
Puri-Haridwar-Puri Kalinga Utkal Express will be cancelled from Puri on every Tuesday and Friday between January 8 to February 26, 2016 and from Haridwar on every Monday and Friday between January 11 to February 29, 2016.
Bhubaneswar-New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express via Tata will be cancelled from Bhubaneswar on every Tuesday between January 12 to February 23 2016 and from New Delhi on every Wednesday between January 13 to February 24, 2016.
Recalling experience from the previous years, the official said dense fog continued during the period from January to March across the country and it descends more heavily in the Northern and North-Western regions of the country.
In view of dense fog and poor visibility which is reduced to less than 50 meters in late night and early morning hours and 150 meters in the day time, train operations are badly affected every year. Not only railway communication but also road and air communication in northern part of India is also hampered during the period, he said.
