EDMC today launched 'E-Municipality Solid Waste Disposal Monitoring System' under which dump carriers, trucks and loaders will be monitored through GPS devices, Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) readers and tags installed in these vehicles, North Delhi and East Delhi public relations officer Yogendra Singh Mann said.
The system would allow councillors and officials to monitor functioning and movement of these vehicles in "real- time" and offer "greater transparency" in operations for the civic bodies.
The total cost of the four-year project is about Rs 1.92 crore and it has been given to a private company, which has installed VTS (vehicle tracking system) devices in 233 auto- tippers, RF tags in 81 vehicles such as trucks and loaders and RF tags at 278 dhalaos (dump), the mayor said.
Explaining the technique, EDMC Standing Committee Chairman Sanjay Surjan said the GPS devices will help know the movement of these vehicles, time wasted by them, over-speeding, area covered and parking status.
"When trucks and loaders will reach Jhilmil Depot, RF reader will scan the RF tag and upload the data of their movement on server. The data collected will be available at www.Edmctracking.Com and the movement of the vehicles can also be tracked live on the website," Surjan said.
The photograph will immediately be uploaded on the server. With a Bluetooth printer, a photocopy of the slip will be prepared which will be handed over to the truck driver, he said.
