Election veteran files nomination for RS polls from Karnataka

K Padmarajan, who fought Lok Sabha elections against Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an aim to set a record, today filed his nomination as an independent Rajya Sabha candidate from Karnataka.
The Tamil Nadu-based tyre trading firm owner has no political ambition to win elections, but to set a world record of contesting the maximum number of elections.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, Padmarajan had taken on the mighty Modi as an independent from Vadodra seat.
Padmarajan, who is a qualified homoeopathic doctor, has already fought and lost all the 158 elections before he filed his 159th nomination against Modi.

Padmarajan, who calls himself "Election King of India", has been fighting elections since last 25 years to set a world record of fighting maximum number of elections.
On earlier occasions, he fought against Atal Bihari Vajpayee, A P J Abdul Kalam, Pratibha Patil, Manmohan Singh and others.

The biennial polls to fill four seats in the Rajya Sabha and seven seats in the Legislative Council from the Legislative Assembly in the state will be held on June 19.
June 9 is the last date for filing of nominations and June 12 for withdrawal of nominations.
Polling will be held from 9 AM to 4 PM on June 19. Counting of votes will be taken up the same evening, according to Legislative Assembly Secretary P Om Prakash, who is the poling officer.
