The actor of "The Amazing Spider-Man" had allegedly been "in the dark place" long before the two split, reported Ace Showbiz.
"She ended things and moved back to LA. It's finished. It's not just a break," a source said.
The break-up may be caused by long distance relationship they had been trying to endure while Garfield was in Taiwan to film an upcoming Martin Scorsese movie "Silence" since January.
Stone, 26, and Garfield, 31, started dating in summer 2011 soon after the production of "The Amazing Spider-Man" finished.
