Priyanshu Pandey was a resident of Mehrauli and pursuing B.Tech from a private institute, police said.
The incident took place this evening when Pandey along with at least two friends had gone for a walk at the archaeological village complex in Mehrauli, they said.
When the group was walking close to the pond, Pandey's foot slipped and he fell into it. The friends raised alarm and the police was informed, a senior official said.
Pandey's body was fished out around 10:45 PM, police said, adding from preliminary investigation foul play has been ruled out but the student's friends are being questioned.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination, they said.
