Chairman of moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said that Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will use his country's ties with India and Pakistan for resolution of Kashmir issue.
"Turkey being an important Islamic country and having cordial relations with both India and Pakistan, we hope President Erdogan will make efforts to end the political uncertainly prevalent in the region since decades," he said in a statement here.
The Turkish President is currently on a state visit to India.
Welcoming Erodgan's statement wherein he called for a multilateral dialogue for resolving Kashmir problem, he said "The Turkish President is well aware that how Kashmir dispute is the main source of tension between the two nations".
The Hurriyat leader said that being an active member of Kashmir Contact Group at Organisation of Islamic Conference, "Turkey, which has always advocated the solution of Kashmir issue in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir, can play a vital role in the resolution of Kashmir dispute to end the tension in this region".
Asserting that Kashmiris have always longed for good relations between India and Pakistan, the separatist leader said it was also the historical reality that due to lingering on the Kashmir issue, two nations have adopted confrontational policy against each other, and fought three wars over Kashmir.
"At a time when Turkey and India seem to come closer, Turkey can act in an imaginative way in bringing both India and Pakistan nearer to find an honourable and just solution of Kashmir issue," Mirwaiz added.
