Event manager held for raping woman

An event manager was today arrested from Secunderabad for allegedly cheating and raping a 22-year-old woman, the police said.
"The accused, identified as Sourav Gupta, had befriended the woman in November 2014 through a common friend and subsequently proposed her," Karkhana police station inspector B Janaiah told PTI tonight.
However, the woman had rejected his proposal, he said.
"Later, they met at a party where Gupta offered her some drug-laced drink and after she became unconscious he allegedly raped her," the inspector said based on a complaint lodged by the woman through email, who now resides in Dubai.
Gupta took her to Goa and secretly married her. After they returned to Hyderabad she was allegedly harassed by him and his parents, the officer said.

"Though she became pregnant, she had to go for abortion in 2015 and she even attempted suicide twice," Janaiah told quoting the complaint.

The woman later went to Dubai and in March this year she came to know that Gupta had married another woman and lodged a complaint through email, police said.
A case on charge of rape, cheating and other relevant sections of IPC was registered against Gupta, the inspector added.
"The woman was called to Hyderabad and after recording her statement, Gupta was arrested today," the officer said.
