Everest climber to get double promotion

Wansuk Myrthong, woman constable from Meghalaya, would get double promotion for becoming the first tribal Khasi woman from North-East to scale Mt Everest.
"The woman constable was a member of the first North-East India Everest Expedition team, which scaled the peak recently. We propose to reward her appropriately for this feat," Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told PTI.
"Myrthong who is a woman constable of Meghalaya Police would be promoted to Assistant Sub-Inspector," officials said.
Governor R S Mooshahary honoured her yesterday by allowing her to plant a rare 'Maidenhair' tree sapling, which scientists said would live for over 3000 years.

Wansuk is the second person from Meghalaya to have scaled Mt Everest, 8,848 metres above sea level. Gary Jarman Lamare, a photographer with Discovery Channel achieved the feat in May last year.
She was among 16 climbers from North-East which was flagged off by President Pranab Mukherjee from Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 20.
"I prayed for about five minutes. I cried and thanked God for making my dream come true," Myrthong said.
