Former Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly and eminent writer Vishnu Surya Wagh was today admitted to a private hospital here after his health condition deteriorated this morning, a BJP leader said.

Wagh, 52, has not been keeping well since August 2016 when he suffered a heart attack.

"Former Deputy Speaker Vishnu Wagh has been admitted to a private hospital after his health condition deteriorated this morning. But he is stable right now," BJP leader and former Panaji MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar told reporters.

Wagh, a former BJP legislator, did not contest the 2017 state Assembly polls due to his ill health.

Kunkolienkar said Wagh has infection which is being treated by the doctors.

"We wish him a speedy recovery," he added.

After 14 years of being a former general secretary and spokesperson of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), Wagh had joined the BJP in October 2011 and won the assembly elections in 2012.

Ever since he suffered a massive heart attack at a public function in Panaji in August 2016, Wagh has been bed-ridden. He had undergone an angioplasty at the Goa Medical College and Hospital here and was later shifted to leading hospitals in Mumbai. He returned to Goa after his discharge in April 2017.

Wagh is also known for his writings in Marathi and Konkani. He was former vice chairman of Kala Academy, Goa and won several awards, including Goa Ratna.
