Utkal Bharat party today lodged a complaint against the Odisha Chief Minister and the director of Vigilance department accusing them of of hatching a criminal conspiracy and slapping a graft case against senior IPS officer Prakash Mishra.
Former MP Kharavel Swain, President of Utkal Bharat, a small political party lodged a complaint with the Capital Police Station here, but police is yet to register a case.
Swain lodged the complaint against the Chief Minister and the director of vigilance department after Orissa High Court on June 19 quashed a corruption case against former state DGP Mishra, presently working as the Director General of CRPF.
"I have mentioned in the FIR that Orissa High Court has quashed the case against Mishra. The HC in its judgement observed that State Vigilance had deliberately and wilfully registered a one-sided case against Mishra to satisfy his higher-ups," Swain told reporters after lodging the complaint.
Swain said, "The High Court has also said that honest officers like Mishra are made victims by the political leaders in India. My question is, who is the political boss?"
The Utkal Bharat president mentioned that the state government has so far not taken any action against the director of vigilance despite the High Court giving such observation against the officer.
The state government had lodged the case against Mishra accusing him of causing loss to the exchequer while holding the post of Odisha Police Housing Corporation.
Though the Capital Police Station confirmed receipt of the complaint, it was yet to register a case. "We are examining the matter," said a senior police officer.
While the chief minister and the vigilance director were not immediately available for comment, ruling BJD MLA Debashish Samantray defended them saying the state may challenge the Orissa High Court judgement in the Supreme Court.
