For the first time in the history of Ramkrishna Mission Purulia, a former student of the institution has filed nominations as a Lok Sabha candidate from the Purulia seat.
Dr Mriganko Mahato, nominated by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for the seat, filed his papers yesterday to the District Returning Officer.
Mahato, who had passed the Madhyamik examinations from the school in 1980, thus became the first one among RKM Purulia alumni to have tried his luck in general elections.
Mahato's father Sitaram was a minister in Congress regime 35 years back.
Sitting Congress MLA Nepal Mahato and All India Forward Bloc's Narahari Mahto are also in the fray.
