Union Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya told Rajya Sabha in a written reply that in order to improve employability of youth, 21 ministries are running skill development schemes across 73 sectors.
"The Government has sanctioned expanded National Career Service Project (NCSP) for implementation during the 12th Five Year Plan for connecting youth with job opportunities," Dattatreya said.
He said that employment generation is both a cause and consequence of economic growth and is impacted by demographic shifts, technological transformations and skill base of workforce and involves various stakeholders.
Replying to another question, he said that the government is implementing the NCSP for linking employment exchanges and other institutions using technology to provide a variety of employment related services like career counselling, vocational guidance, information of skill development course and others.
The NCSP would be supported by a call centre and services will be accessible through a variety of delivery channels including employment exchanges. The project also comprises the development of a national portal to facilitate registration of candidates, notification of vacancies and other assistance, Dattatreya said, adding that it has been sanctioned for an outlay of Rs 292.2 crore.
"The Ministry has organised two tripartite consultations with stakeholders to ascertain their views. The proposed amendments have not been finalised," Dattatreya said.
