Some sources said the blast was "accidental" as an explosive went off during a training session but army did not confirm it offically.
"As many as 18 army jawans have been injured in an explosion at army's Corps Battle School (CBS) at Khrew in Awantipora area of Pulwama," Defence spokesman Col N N Joshi told PTI.
He said all the injured personnel were airlifted to the Base Hospital at Badamibagh Cantonment here. "The condition of all of them is stable as of now," he said.
The spokesman said it was not immediately known as to how the explosion happened.
"It is a matter of investigation as to what exactly caused the blast," Col Joshi said.
A Court of Inquiry has been ordered into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the blast.
