Railways earned Rs 67,879.95 crore during April to October as against the budgeted provision of Rs 70,147.74 crore.

"The earning was 3.2 per cent less than the budgeted provision for the April-October, 2012," Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy said in a written reply.

Railways earned Rs 17,691.43 crore in passenger segment as against the target of Rs 18,196.46 crore in the first seven months of the current fiscal. In goods segment, it earned Rs 46,805.48 crore as against the budgeted provision of Rs 48,580.09 crore during this period.

Financial condition of Railways has been adversely affected by lesser internal resource generation mainly because of unprecedented impact of Sixth Central Pay Commission on staff costs and pensionary liability.

The adverse financial condition has affected many ongoing rail projects.
