Fed Cup Sr National Athletics C'ship to start on Aug 16

NIS Patiala is all set to host the Federation Cup Senior National Athletics Championship -- the final selection trial for Indian squad for the upcoming Asian Games at Incheon -- from August 16.
The Athletics Federation of India has made it mandatory for all athletes to take part in the upcoming four-day championship in order to be eligible for the selection in the Asian Games.
"We have already received around 800 entries for the tournament. We think that the trials will be successful enough to bring out a number of good participants who can win medals for the country," Punjab Athletics Association President Satvir Singh, who is in charge of organising the 18th edition of the championship, announced at a Press Conference here today.

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Arpinder Singh and World Junior Athletic Championship bronze medal winner Navjeet Kaur Dhillon were also present here today at the National Institute of Sports.
"This tournament has played a great role in my career by providing me with opportunity. It is very simple and transparent. You come here and if you win, you go ahead," said Arpinder.
