Conservation and scientific cleaning of the Buddhist stupa was being carried out for the last one year, a spokesman of the department said.
Structures which were to be preserved have been kept in soil, he said, adding JCB machine was used for making pathways and landscaping at the Buddhist stupa.
The work was done in a proper manner under supervision of the Archaeology and Museums Department and no harm was made to the stupa or other structures found during scientific cleaning, he said.
The tourism department has so far spent Rs 30 lakh on these works, whereas Archaeology and Museums department has used Rs 7 lakh on scientific cleaning and conservation of the area.
