An FIR has been lodged against AAP MLA Somnath Bharti for allegedly abetting three men to misbehave with a woman at an Eid function attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here earlier this month, police said today.
The complainant, who is an NGO worker, told police that she had gone to meet Kejriwal at the function when she was stopped by some police officials.
Three men then approached her and suddenly started manhandling her and touched her inappropriately as they tried to push her away. They also threatened and abused her verbally, the woman alleged, adding that she had seen Bharti instructing the three men to do so, according to the police.
Malviya Nagar MLA Bharti alleged that the complainant and her accomplices tried to breach the Chief Minister's security at the function on July 8 organised at South Delhi and the charges against him were baseless.
"The girls tried to breach the security for the CM at which they were stopped by the police. The charges against me are baseless and levelled at the behest of BJP which is perturbed by recent developments in the country," he said.
The three men have also been booked for allegedly misbehaving with the woman at the behest of Bharti, police said.
The woman has filed a complaint at the Saket police station on the basis of which an FIR under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to women with intent to outrage modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and Section 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of woman) of the IPC has been registered, said Additional DCP (south) Nupur Prasad.
The police later added Section 109 of IPC charging Bharti for abatement to the offence, said the officer.
