The Punjab government today directed deputy commissioners and district police authorities to register FIRs against fraudulent agents selling fake forms of the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' (BBBP) scheme.
The directions were issued following media reports in which it was alleged that some individuals and organisations were selling fake forms for registration to claim the cash incentive of Rs 2 lakh provided to girls under the BBBP scheme, an official spokesperson of the state government said here.
However, the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department had clearly specified that the scheme has no provision for an individual cash component and it is not a DBT (direct benefit transfer) scheme, he said.
The state government has instructed deputy commissioners and the police department to register FIRs against fraudsters, to protect people, the spokesperson said.
The social security department advised people to be vigilant against such fraudulent agents, who were collecting money the garb of this scheme, he said.
If anyone is found selling such forms, the matter must be immediately brought to the notice of the district administration so that action could be taken, the spokesperson said.
