Fire destroys equipment at electrical sub-station in Madurai

A major fire destroyed electrical equipment including transformers worth several lakhs of rupees at the sub-station of the Tamilnadu Generation and Distribution Corporation at Anupanadi in the city today.
No one was injured in the fire which raged for about two hours before being put off, police said.
More than 80 lorries were pressed into service to bring water and douse the fire, they added.
