Separate Law Ministry notifications said senior most judges of the high courts of Calcutta, Sikkim, Tripura, Manipur and Kerala have been elevated as chief justices of the respective high courts.
Justice Girish Chandra Gupta of the Calcutta High Court will be the chief justice of that high court. Justice Satish Kumar Agnihotri of the Sikkim High Court has been elevated as the chief justice in the court.
Similarly, Justice Tinlianthang Vaiphei of the Tripura High Court will be its chief justice. Justice Rakesh Ranjan Prasad of the Manipur High Court will be the chief justice of the high court. Justice Shantanagoudar Mohan Mallikarjunagouda of the Kerala High Court will be the chief justice of the HC.
Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi had on Wednesday told the apex court that "there is progress in the appointments...We will see more progress".
Judiciary and executive have seen at variance over appointment of judges in the recent past.
