A five-year-old boy died when the two-wheeler on which he was riding with his parents skidded and he came under the wheel of a tempo on Ghodbunder Road in the city on Thursday.
Vedant Das, the boy, and his parents were going to a relative's house on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, police said.
Their scooter skidded after hitting an uneven patch on the road and the trio fell down.
A speeding tempo ran over the boy, killing him on the spot, police added.
Kasarwadavali police registered a case against the tempo driver. He has not been arrested yet.
