Three people have been arrested for allegedly selling foreign-made cigarettes which did not carry the mandatory health warning and information, the police said today.
Raids were conducted at three shops in south Delhi yesterday following a tip off and 9,001 packets of cigarettes worth Rs 20 lakh were seized, they said.
The owners of these stores, identified as Ashok Kumar Gupta, Vikas Gupta and Purshottam Gupta, have been arrested, the police said.
"All the arrested persons were in this business for many years. During interrogation, they confessed that selling these cigarettes is more profitable for them, rather than (selling) other brands," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya said.
A case had been lodged, he said.
