According to an official spokesperson, the President cleared the names of 84-year-old Prasanan and 81-year-old Miri under the Article 80 of the Constitution.
While Parasaran has been appointed for a term of six years from the date of notification to be issued by the government, Miri has been appointed to the vacancy caused due to the death of Ram Dayal Munda and his tenure will be upto March 21, 2016.
Parasaran was Advocate General of Tamil Nadu and subsequently the Solicitor General of India. He was also the Attorney General between 1983-1989.
He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in the year 2011.
Miri is a noted philosopher and educationist and had been the Director of the Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, and later Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University.
He has been awarded Padma Bhushan for his contribution in the field of education.
