A wanted former police officer, Nurul Islam, who was accused of raping and molesting two minor sisters including a minor in South West Garo Hills district two years ago, surrendered at a local court here, the police said.
Islam, who was in-charge of the Ampati police station at the time of the incident, was later sent to 14 days judicial custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate here.
"Islam surrendered before the court today and his bail application was denied. He was sent to 14 days judicial custody," East Khasi Hills district SP M Kharkrang said.
The High Court had earlier this year directed Islam to surrender before the lower court at Ampati, the South West Garo hills district headquarters, but he appealed indicating threats to his life there.
He was asked to surrender at the lower court here.
Islam was sacked from service after he allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl inside the Ampati police station on March 13, 2013 and then allegedly raped her elder sister a few days later on March 31, at their house at gun point.
The officer had threatened to kill both the victims if they dared to inform anyone about the crime.
Islam, who was taken into custody on June 1, 2013, escaped from police custody at Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills.
