As many as 40 policemen in Pakistan were sacked for dereliction of duty during a daring attack by Taliban on a high-security jail in 2013 that led to the escape of nearly 250 inmates, including hardcore militants.
In an inquiry launched after the incident, the 40 policemen were found guilty of dereliction of duty during the jailbreak in Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province.
On July 30, Pakistani Taliban insurgents had freed 248 inmates, including high-profile militants, during a brazen overnight attack on the central jail.
At least 13 people, including six policemen, died in the assault.
The district police officer, who led the inquiry, said that the terminated policemen included an assistant sub-inspector, head-constable and constables.
He said dismissed persons reserve the right to file appeals in the department and the services tribunal.
