Four youth have been arrested for their alleged role in two separate carjacking incidents, including the one in which a car was robbed from a policeman.
According to the police, Vishal Dahiya (25), Vikrant Dagar (25), Amit Gupta (25) and Neeraj Dahiya (23) were arrested and two cars, a mobile phone and one gold ring have been recovered from them.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said that in one of these cases, a Santro car of a serving Delhi police official was allegedly robbed by the accused on December 12, last year when constable Pawan Kumar was on his way back home.
He said that the accused used to plot the incident in which one of them would pretend to be injured and lie down on the road.
Giving details of the incident, the police said that when Kumar was on his way back home, he saw a person lying on the road and two persons were standing and requesting passersby for help.
To extend help to the injured person, Kumar stopped his Santro car but he was overpowered and the accused robbed his car, mobile phone and cash, it said.
The other incident had taken place on January 2 when a man was talking on his mobile phone while sitting in his Ritz car in Rohini. Three persons had overpowered him on knife-point and robbed his car and other valuables.
The police said the robbed vehicles were used to smuggle liquor.
The accused were apprehended and upon sustained interrogation, they confessed their involvement in these incidents.
The police said that Vishal, who was allegedly involved in the robbery of Ritz car only, was working as a lab assistant in LNJP hospital here and later he started robberies with his friends in order to have a lavish lifestyle.
They claimed that Vikrant was the one who had slept on the road showing himself as injured in the December 12 incident.
Regarding Gupta and Neeraj, police said they were allegedly involved in both the cases.
