"We have tested the reactors in France and they are very safe. Without being convinced about its safety, we won't give it to India.. It is safe and Fukushima resistant. We have not a single nuclear accident in France," he told reporters.
Noting that China has already purchased two of these reactors, he said, "Those reactors would go for production before India does, so you can see the performance of these reactors."
Areva would construct six 1,650 MW EPR reactors at Jaitapur in Maharashtra.
Richier is slated to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa tomorrow.
He said more French companies are interested in setting up shops in Tamil Nadu, as Planning Commission Vice Chairman has appreciated the growth story of the state.
He said France has a total investment worth USD 18 billion in India of which one quarter is in Tamil Nadu.
