"Sachin Tendulkar has taken oath today. Sachin is from Mumbai. I know him. I give him all my good wishes.... He has been nominated. It is a good thing and I welcome him," Gadkari told reporters.
Tendulkar took oath in the Parliament office of Vice President M Hamid Ansari who is the ex-officio chairman of the Upper House.
Asked if BJP was apprehensive that Tendulkar may gradually take interest in politics and speak against the opposition, Gadkari said "he is not a politician and does not want to enter politics. He does not want to campaign for any party."
Tendulkar was nominated to the Upper House along with famous actor Rekha and industry captain Anu Agha.
